Our Heritage

Al LeightonLeighton Broadcasting has a long history of serving our communities. The roots of Leighton Broadcasting go back to 1963 with KDLM AM in Detroit Lakes, MN Pioneer Broadcaster and our founder, Al Leighton, went on to own stations in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Texas. In 1975 Leighton Broadcasting began a revolution in St. Cloud radio by purchasing local radio stations KFAM AM/FM bringing the first music-intensive station to the community. Top 40 innovator KCLD became an upper Midwest legend that continues that heritage today. Country legend KYCK, Grand Forks, ND, became part of Leighton Broadcasting in 1983.

His insight and dedication to the art of broadcasting are the foundation of what is now Leighton Broadcasting. Since its origin, Leighton Broadcasting has remained a constant, innovative force in the radio marketing industry.
